An evolutionary precursor and later contemporary to the rapier, the Side Sword was a military sword in the 16th and 17th centuries. However, it found great popularity among the civilian population due to its light weight and speed. Its use saw one advantage over the rapier: that it afforded an extremely efficient cut ability, as well as thrust. The hilt features an elegant swept S-quillion design that affords excellent protection for the hand and makes for a beautiful blade on the hip. We also offer a fencing version of a side sword here.
