Sea Wave Katana

One of our highest quality Katana, constructed in the traditional manner with different types of steel for the sides, core, back and cutting edge. It takes a master swordsmith to produce a blade like this. The placid blue says conceals the rippling waves of the folded steel blade, which features a bo-hi groove and is collared by a silver hibaki and notched seppa. The hada and hamon reflect the turbulent silver wavse depicted on the tsuba, kashira, and fuchi. Silver and gold manuke stand out against the dark blue tsuka handle warp, overlaid on genuine same ray skin. The blue saego completes the saya and is accented by buffalo horn kurikata and koiguchi. 

The cutting edge features a striking and highly defined hamon, each unique to the individual blade, much like a steel fingerprint. This is a visual mark of differential heating in the tempering process achieved by coating portions of the blade in a viscous clay based paste, but not others, allowing the sections to heat, insulate and cool at different rates. This produces is a complex molecular structure in the steel of the blade allowing for a harder cutting edge and more flexible body resulting strong, resilient sword capable of highly precise cuts. A great choice for the new or seasoned practitioner of Tameshigiri, the art of the "test cut".
